DERRY — The search continues for Pinkerton Academy’s next headmaster.
Pinkerton trustee Kimberly Smith is helping lead the search committee to find a replacement for Headmaster Mary Anderson.
Anderson will retire at the end of this school year. She was required by contract to give two years notice to trustees.
The firm of Carney, Sandoe and Associates is helping with the search.
Trustees and the search committee also asked for input from school staff, students and Pinkerton sending town representatives.
“We are right on the timeline and are receiving candidates,” Smith said.
Those candidates are coming from all over, she said. She would not specify how many people have applied so far, nor if any of the applicants were in-house.
Pinkerton has only had three official headmasters in its history, Ivah Hackler, Bradford Ek and Anderson. Most had long careers.
Anderson has worked at Pinkerton for 38 years, first serving as a teacher, then leading the school’s business department. She then become assistant headmaster before landing the top job.
Over the winter, Smith said, the committee will narrow the field to semifinalists and the interview process will begin.
A new headmaster will assume duties next summer.
Smith said it was an honor to be part of the headmaster selection process and this was one of the most important things she will do as a trustee of the high school.
“I want to see the best candidates (Carney, Sandoe and Associates) have,” she said. “This has been fun; I love the challenge.”
