---- — Auditions set for ‘Fame Jr.’

The Specialized Theater Enrichment Program holds auditions for the musical “Fame Jr.” on March 23 at the Derry Opera House.

The play will be staged at the Opera House June 6 and 7. The program is open to youth actors in grades eight through 12.

Get the inside scoop on bobcats

Derry’s Go Green Committee and Derry Public Library offers a program, “Understanding Bobcats in New Hampshire” on March 26 at 6 p.m. at the library.

The program is free and presented by Kevin McAllister of the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Wildlife. That department has teamed up with University of New Hampshire faculty to conduct a four-year study of the bobcat in the state, how many there are and where they live.

MOMS preschool fair set for March 27

The MOMS Club of Derry hosts a preschool fair March 27 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Marion Gerrish Community Center, 39 West Broadway.

Bring Fido, Fluffy to rabies clinic

Parks and Recreation, Animal Control, the town clerk’s office, Friends of the Derry Dog Park and Handel With Care Veterinary Clinic all host the annual rabies clinic/dog licensing day March 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Alexander Carr Park lodge on Pierce Avenue.

Vaccinations cost $15 per animal and owners must provide previous rabies certificate. All dogs present must be leashed and cats must be in carriers.

Licensing is also available for Derry residents. The cost is $7.50 for neutered/spayed dogs, $10 for nonneutered/spayed. Senior citizens pay $3 for the first dog. Proceeds go to benefit ongoing improvements at the Derry Dog Park. Call 432-6136.

N.H. poet laureate to speak April 9

Derry Public Library honors April as National Poetry Month and presents New Hampshire Poet Laureate Alice B. Fogel with a presentation “Strange Terrain: How Not to ‘Get’ Poetry and Let it Get You Instead.” The program is April 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the library.

Fogel will offer guests her guidance in understanding and appreciating poetry. Her poetry books including “Elemented,” “I Love This Dark World,” and “Be That Empty.”

The program is sponsored by the New Hampshire Humanities Council and is free and open to all. Call 432-6140 for information.

Caregivers’ Loaners Closet needs help

Community Caregivers of Greater Derry’s Loaners Closet is in need of transport wheelchairs, four-wheel walkers with seats and handbrakes, commodes and bath chairs.

Anyone with medical equipment they are no longer using can donate it to the closet. Anyone needing an item can borrow it and then return it when it is no longer needed. Call 432-0877.
