DERRY — As a new super-sized Wal-Mart gets ready to open this fall, the current store nearby is officially up for sale.
The store at 30 Manchester Road, is listed with Bedford-based NAI Norwood Group, and priced at $4.6 million.
The 120,000-square-foot store, built in 1991, sits on a 14-acre lot.
Town officials approved the new store as part of its economic development hopes in the TIF, or tax increment financing, district on Manchester Road.
Work on widening the road is currently underway.
The new 24-hour store will be approximately 147,000 square feet and will offer shopper-friendly features like an expanded grocery section and wider aisles.
Officials expect the new store to open in September.
Wal-Mart officials told town boards throughout the approval process that the company stands on a mission to sell old stores that are no longer in use as quickly as possible.
Town Councilor Brian Chirichiello said as the Route 28 widening project moves forward, all the new retail possibilities, like the new Wal-Mart, will only strengthen and benefit the town.
"The new stores are coming on line and I think the area will look great once completed," he said. "I think we will see new businesses come in as well, ones like Panera Bread, that bring in additional jobs. Super Wal-Mart comes on line in September and I think that will be a plus as well."
