Winter programs start soon

Recreation department offers winter programs

DERRY — Derry Parks and Recreation has announced its Winter 2014 Programming. Some classes start soon, so check it out and sign up.

Adult Yoga

Adult Yoga for All is an all-inclusive yoga program for adults at least 18 years of age. Participants of 16 and 17 years of age are also eligible to participate when registering with a parent or guardian.

This program includes five classes of 75 minutes each held at Alexander Carr Lodge. Participants will be introduced to the health benefits of stretching exercises, breathing techniques, yoga postures, flow sequences, and relaxation. Also, participants are sure to increase flexibility, strength, balance, and self-confidence and reduce stress.

Classes are offered Mondays or Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Two Winter Sessions will be held on Mondays, running Jan. 6 to Feb. 3, and March 3 to March 31. Piloxing is an incredible program uniquely mixing Pilates and boxing into a fat blasting and muscle toning workout guaranteed to whip you into shape.

It blends the power, speed, and agility of boxing with the beautiful sculpting and flexibility of Pilates. Instructed by Jackie Penrod, this program is sure to jump start those New Year’s resolutions to get you into shape for 2014.

Two sessions will be offered throughout the winter. Winter Session I will be held from Jan. 4 to Feb. 8, and Winter Session II will be held Feb. 22 to March 29.

Men’s 30-plus Basketball Program

The Derry Parks & Recreation Department is looking for additional participants for its Men’s 30-plus Basketball program. The program format is pick-up and recreational in nature, focusing on fun and fitness in a non-competitive format.
