Derry police plan winter blood drive Jan. 24

Derry News

---- — DERRY — Police are hoping for some big crowd control again this winter.

The annual Derry Police Department winter blood drive is set for Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Promises to Keep, 199 Rockingham Road.

This is the 18th year for the popular drive.

The department hosts blood drives in both winter and summer. Derry’s drives are also among the top collections in the state with a winter goal of about 300 pints every year.

The American Red Cross has honored Derry in the past for collecting 400 pints at one collection, earning the town a spot as the 60th biggest collection in the nation.

The blood drive also joins together businesses and other community groups that offer support like donations of food and services.

Derry’s Police Senior Advisory Committee helps staff the food area where donors stop for snacks after giving blood.

Derry Police Senior Advisory Committee members staff the “food court” area of the facility, where donors stopped for some food and drinks after donating.

This year, food will be provided by many restaurants in the Greater Derry area. All donors will receive a Red Cross/Derry Police shirt and free coupons.

Appointments are recommended, but not required. Call 1-800-733-2767 to sign up to donate.
