DERRY — A local shopping center hopes to reach out and involve the community in a wide variety of fun events this summer.
Derry Meadows Shoppes invites local organizations and groups to use the premises for fundraisers and events. The shopping center invites schools, arts organizations and other groups to take advantage of the plaza location to promote awareness of activities while adding a local appeal to the shopping area.
"With tenants like Hannaford Supermarket, TD Banknorth, the Workout Club and UPS store, Derry Meadows Shoppes is already a member of the community," said Caitlin O'Neil, marketing assistant at KeyPoint Partners, the Burlington real estate service firm managing and leasing Derry Meadows. "The premises are visited by locals on a daily basis and we just hope to build upon this relationship by using the additional space to give back to the community."
Events are already lining up this summer at the plaza, including the Derry Meadows Music Cafe, a benefit series starting on June 27 from 7 to 10 p.m. The night features local singer/songwriter Greg Descoteaux, Marissa Winings, and Second Union, a duo with Dave Bastein and Sue Van Hamm.
Other musical performances scheduled through the summer months at Derry Meadows includes a Pinkerton Alumni Night on July 11, joining Pinkerton alum together for an informal jam session; Fliptop Fund will play at the plaza on July 18, and local band Russell Hill performs on Aug. 22.
Derry Meadows Shoppes hopes to support other local groups such as the Upper Room, the Greater Derry Humane Society, and the Red Star Twirlers.
"We would love to use the space for a market, from local grown food to crafts and antiques," O'Neil added. "The overall goal is to continue keeping the community together."
Other retailers at Derry Meadows includes Happy Nails, Dollar Tree, Burgundy's, Thai Chef, Burger King, La Carreta, and Flagship Cinema.
