Derry's tax rate rises slightly
DERRY — The latest tax rate has been set by the state and it represents an increase of about three percent over last year's rate.
The tax rate is $25.53 per $1,000 of assessed valuation compared with last year's rate of $22.05.
Although the new rate is slightly higher than the 2007 rate, a comparison is not meaningful because the property values fell by 10.8 percent during a revaluation this year.
Under the new tax rate, the owner of a home valued at $250,000 would pay $6,382.50.
Tax bills will be sent out by the end of the month and are due by Dec. 1.
The tax rate breaks down as follows:
Town: $8.81, as compared to $7.64 last year
School: $13.19, as compared to $11.08 last year
State Education: $2.54 , as compared to $2.44 last year
County: $0.99, as compared to 89 cents last year
