CHESTER — A Chester Academy teacher was honored last week for his military service and his passion for educating children.
Ron Lubatti, a math teacher at the school, received a special recognition award from Troops to Teachers, a national organization that aids those who wish to become certified teachers, following careers and years in military service.
Lubatti spent 22 years in the Navy and has taught at Chester Academy for several years.
With the motto "Proud to Serve Again," Gary Lovgren, Troops to Teachers representative and New Hampshire counselor, came to Chester last week to give Lubatti an award for surpassing the five-year mark as a teacher following military service.
Lovgren, who spent 30 years in the military, said Troops to Teachers helps people with certification or re-certification tuition, and other costs and information, plus aids in other job and employment/placement services.
An accompanying program, Spouses to Teachers, helps spouses of military personnel who wish to become teachers, or need to become re-certified to teach.
Lovgren said approximately 70 Granite State teachers are listed as being part of the Troops to Teachers program.
He added Lubatti also volunteered to be part of the Troops to Teachers mentor program and can help others hoping to take the leap from the military to the teaching and education field.
At a ceremony held last week at Chester Academy, Lovgren awarded Lubatti a plaque and a special military coin, given from a senior officer to someone who has done a good job.
