DERRY — The Derry Fire Department is investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed two portable toilets and equipment used by the town's Pop Warner football program a week before the season's first game.
Battalion Chief Michael Doyle said the majority of the damage to helmets and other equipment used by the Derry Demons football team and cheerleading program was from smoke. The metal trailer is behind Gilbert H. Hood Middle School.
Firefighters received a 911 call and were on the scene just before 10 p.m. They were able to extinguish the blaze within 24 minutes, according to Doyle.
The team's first game is scheduled for Aug. 24.
