---- — Free clothing ministry coming up

Renew clothing ministry at Calvary Bible Church is open March 8 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the church, 145 Hampstead Road.

Donated, gently used apparel is offered free to families and individuals in need or on a budget. Donations of good condition, modern clothing can be placed in the Renew donation box near the door. Call 434-1516 for information.

Genealogy Roundtable March 11

The monthly meeting of the Genealogy Roundtable will be at Derry Public Library Tuesday, March 11, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room downstairs.

Meetings are informal and allow people to discuss their research. Everyone is welcome, regardless of level of experience.

Indoor craft fair is planned

The Derry Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star will hold an indoor craft fair and yard sale March 29 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 58 East Broadway.

Tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $20 each. The public is invited to browse the tables and find a bargain. Call 432-4845 for information.

Sonshine receives $5,000 grant

For the second year, Alexander Eastman Foundation has awarded a $5,000 to Sonshine Soup Kitchen to assist in its healthy eating choices in-house and its home food program.

The soup kitchen has provided free hot meals to people in need since 1989. This grant provides fresh fruits and vegetables for both the dining room and for guests to take home.

The Foundation began its work in 1983 as a result of the dissolution of the Alexander Eastman Hospital. Grants and scholarship assistance helps promote good health initiatives in the Greater Derry area. Visit alexandereastman.org or sonshinesoupkitchen.org for information.

Hazardous waste collection set

Residents of Londonderry and Derry can participate in a household hazardous waste collection event May 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at West Running Brook Middle School in Derry.

Materials including pesticides, cleaners, photo chemicals, poisons, pool chemicals, solvents, antifreeze, gasoline, oil-based paints, thinners and driveway sealer are among the items accepted. Items not accepted include batteries, latex paints, explosives, ammunition, used oil or infectious waste.

Books for sale at the library

The Friends of the Derry Libraries will host a book sale March 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the library, 64 East Broadway. Proceeds support programs at Derry Public Library and Taylor Library and help purchase museum passes that are available to library patrons.
