Garden club kicks off season
The Derry Garden Club kicks off its new season March 7 at 10 a.m. with a program “My Cutting Garden,” featuring master gardener and Sandown Garden Club president Audrey Vargish.
There will be a PowerPoint presentation focused on planning, planting and enjoying one’s cutting garden.

As part of Derry Public Library’s continuing series on local history, the program “Derry’s Medal of Honor Heroes” will be presented March 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the library’s meeting room, 64 East Broadway.
The program is presented by T.J. Cullinane, vice commander of the New Hampshire Department of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
He will recount the heroic deeds earning two Derry man, Daniel George and William Tabor, the Medal of Honor during the Civil War. Call 432-6140 for information.
Program offers help ‘Understanding Bobcats’
Derry’s Go Green Committee and Derry Public Library present the program “Understanding Bobcats in New Hampshire” March 26 at 6 p.m. at the library on East Broadway.
The program is free and presented by Kevin McAllister of N.H. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, who will speak on bobcats in the state, their habitat and how the animals respond to human populations. Call 432-6140 for information.
Indoor craft fair is planned
The Derry Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star holds an indoor craft fair and yard sale March 29 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 58 East Broadway.
Tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $20 each. The public is invited to browse the tables and find a bargain. Call 432-4845 for information.
Sonshine receives $5,000 grant
For the second year, Alexander Eastman Foundation has awarded a $5,000 to Sonshine Soup Kitchen to assist in its healthy eating choices in-house and its home food program.
