DERRY — Six candidates are hoping to win two open Derry Public Library trustees jobs.
Incumbents Dorothy Wiley and Phyllis Howard go up against M. Jackie Dempsey, Lynne Mann, James Thomas and Christina Mentus for the three-year terms.
Most who are running have deep roots in the library and want to remain involved.
Mann worked as a library page for more than eight years.
“I think anyone who has worked there would be in a good position to be on the board,” she said.
Howard has loved libraries since she was 6 years old and wants to win another term.
Mentus, Thomas and Wiley also have strong connections to libraries, either as staff members or volunteers.
Thomas ran unsuccessfully last year for the job and hopes this might be his year.
He was the sole trustee candidate appearing in Political Connections forum Sunday at Derry’s cable station.
“I wanted to be more involved in the town,” Thomas said.
He has used the library extensively for many years, he said, and would want to work hard to keep up with technology and ways to keep the library’s uses current for all ages.
Dempsey and Mentus did not respond to candidate profile requests.
