DERRY — An incumbent mother/daughter team hope to win more time as Supervisors of the Checklist.
Renee Routhier will run against Janet Bhagat for an open six-year term as supervisor. Renee’s mother, Lorraine, seeks to finish the remaining four years of a six-year position left vacant following the death last year of her husband Roland, who served as a checklist supervisor for many years.
She goes up against Peg Mullins for that position.
Lorraine Routhier wants to continue on working with the town’s checklist, now at more than 20,100 registered voters, a task she finds interesting and rewarding.
She has worked at the polls for more than 50 years as a volunteer and eventually as a checklist supervisor and wants more time.
“I would like to finish my husband’s term,” she said.
Her daughter Renee also has along history in the town voting world and said she loves what she does for the town. She said the job is very detailed and requires a lot of work, but it’s a good way to give back and help get people out to vote.
“And there is so much more to this job than anyone realizes,” she said.
Bhagat has also volunteered at the polls and said she enjoys the process. She also loves history and genealogy and said keeping track of the checklist is an interesting way to serve the town.
She hoped to work on ways to get more people out to vote, especially in the local elections.
Mullins said she has always been interested in the voting process and now has time in her life to pursue that interest and hopefully win a checklist job.
