DERRY — A new contract between the town and its 29 technical and administrative employees is getting closer to being final.
Town councilors agreed at a meeting Feb. 4 to table more discussion on the proposed three-year collective bargaining contract, but acting Town Administrator and Human Resources director Larry Budreau said the document is a good one and the process was successful.
“We’ve been hard at work for three years,” Budreau said. “It’s a great contract for all parties.”
If approved, members of the Professional Administrator and Technical Employees union would receive pay a general 2.5 percent wage increase, then additional raises of 1.5 percent, 2 percent and another 2 percent in each of the following three years of the contract, Budreau said.
The group’s last approved contract expired in 2011.
Budreau said town workers representing other unions are working under five expired contracts.
“That’s not a good place to be for our employees,” he said. “It’s not a good place to be for the town.”
Budreau said if this contract is finally approved, it may prove to be a catalyst for other union deals to be worked out.
“We’ll get this one rolling and other union contracts will fall into place,” he said. “This is a good deal for the town.”
Councilors voted to table the discussion until their next meeting Feb. 18.
