DERRY — Looking for a fun way to enjoy some family time while supporting a great cause? The board of directors of The Upper Room, a Family Resource Center, are launching the Derryopoly fundraiser. Sponsors of the Derryopoly game will have their business name and logo placed on a board "property," with approximately 500 games available for sale by mid-September retailing at local businesses for $30 each.
"The Derryopoly game is a great way for the community to support stronger children and families in our community," said Derryopoly fundraising chair Cathy Taylor, Manager of River Bank in Derry. "Sponsoring is a win-win for business because they not only receive the benefit of helping The Upper Room, but also the added marketing boost of having their brand on the game. We look forward to selling these to Derry residents locally and to those who have moved away and want a piece of nostalgia from their beloved home town."
Space is available in the center of the board for "patron" sponsorships. Included in the four-color shrink-wrapped game box will be houses, hotels, six shaped game pieces, dice and of course, playing money.
"We'll be looking for sponsors such as local businesses that have a long history in Derry as well as historical and community civic groups, Taylor said.
Upper Room executive director Kimberly Bavaro said games like Derryopoly are great for encouraging family time, improving math skills, and increasing strategic thinking.
"We love that this fundraising idea blends so well with our mission to support children, youth and families," Bavaro said. "I can just picture our families sitting together and playing the game our board created to support stronger families in our community."
