The Derry Parks and Recreation Department is offering swim lessons for ages 2 and up this summer. All lessons are held at Hood Pond located on Rollins Street in Derry. Classes last a half hour each and both morning and afternoon lessons are offered in all programs.
Ages 4 and up
Derry residents: $25 per session
Non-residents: $45
Family rate: $10 each additional family member
Two sessions of American Red Cross swim lessons are offered at Hood Park throughout the summer. Each session lasts two weeks and includes half-hour classes Monday through Friday with Red Cross-certified instructors. All participants must register with the Recreation Office prior the start of a session and must attend a scheduled screening date to determine swim level. Participants should arrive at screening prepared to go in the water, with a bathing suit and towel. Swimmers will be placed in a level based on ability and then given the opportunity to choose exact time slot at that time. Session dates and screening information can be found below.

Pollywog Swim
Ages 2 and 3
Adult participation is mandatory
Derry residents: $15
Non-residents: $30
Formerly Pre-School Swim, Pollywog swim is a one-week session offered for toddlers and their parent/guardian. This is an introduction to water and swimming class great for children just getting to know the water. Classes are held Monday through Friday and are each 30 minutes in length. Class times can be found below.

Guard Start
Ages 11 - 14
Derry residents: $40
Non-residents: $65
Family rate: $15 each additional family member
Two sessions of American Red Cross Guard Start will be offered throughout the summer. Each session is two weeks in length, with 45-minute classes held Monday though Friday. It is important to note that this program is designed for youth interested in lifeguarding in the future and not a lifeguard certification program. Five critical areas are covered: Prevention, Fitness, Response, Leadership, and Professionalism. Session dates can be found below. Exact class time is TBA.
