Derry police still seek bank robbery suspect

By Jarret Bencks

DERRY — The Ocean National Bank at 38 Birch St. was robbed at gunpoint March 9. Police are still looking for the culprit.

A man wearing a tan overcoat, hat, and a bandanna or mask covering his face entered the bank, police said. He brandished a silver handgun and kicked open a door to the teller area. He took an undetermined amount of cash from the tellers' drawers, stuffed it into a black duffel bag, and ran out the back door of the bank toward Pierce Avenue, police Capt. Vern Thomas said.

No one was injured. Derry police responded to an alarm at the bank and searched the area, along with the Salem Police Department's K-9 unit. The robber was described by witnesses as about 6 feet tall, with a thin build, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call Derry police at 432-6111, or Southern New Hampshire Crimeline at 1-800-498-4040.
