LONDONDERRY — A Londonderry man has been charged with a misdemeanor after threatening to hurt himself with a gun on Monday morning.
Catherine Himmel called police at around 9:30 a.m. April 26, saying her husband, Keith, was drunk and threatening to hurt himself after he missed a Massachusetts court hearing earlier in the day. He was scheduled to appear in court for a driving while intoxicated charge, according to Lt. Scott Saunders.
Catherine Himmel told police she had already taken a handgun away from him, but he had gone to an upstairs bedroom in their High Range Road home to find a shotgun, according to a police affidavit.
Police arrived on the scene and set up a perimeter around the house for about an hour before he surrendered himself. High Range Road was closed near the intersection of Hall Road while police were negotiating with Himmel to surrender.
When he surrendered, police noticed he had been drinking and took him to the Elliot Medical Center.
Himmel was charged with reckless conduct. He was held on $5,000 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Derry District Court on May 18.
