Birds are chirping, buds are blooming and postal rates are going up. They're all signs of spring! Get used to it.
The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act was signed into law on Dec. 20, 2006. Coming in the thick of the holiday season, few noticed. Under this law, the Postal Service may "adjust" rates every year. Increases may not exceed the inflation rate as set in the consumer price index.

Routine stops never routine

Every car stop made by a police officer is a potential criminal investigation. Most car stops are short in duration and result in a verbal warning. Sometimes the police officer issues a citation for a violation of the rules of the road such as speed or running a stop sign. The officer has the discretion to do either. Generally in Londonderry warnings for traffic offenses are given three to four times more often than citations. At the LPD the decision to warn or cite is made based on the seriousness of the offense and the prioritization of education over enforcement. In other words we believe that the driver should be educated about the need to change their behavior before the heavier hand of enforcement is brandished.

Attorney Myers: I just did a will using a Web site and it was cheaper than if I had hired an attorney. Why not?
This reminds me of a news story from a few years ago. Instead of hiring an electrician, a fellow wired up the underwater lights of his own swimming pool. When the do-it-yourself handyman jumped in, he was electrocuted.

Shining Star

Sometimes it's hard to figure out what it all means, or if it means anything at all. I don't think I am alone in feeling this way.
Morning comes; the day begins filled with unceasing obligation: kids to school, then baseball/softball/lacrosse practice. Maybe it is piano or SAT prep or yoga or working out...you know the drill. At work it is the same: I must get this or that done today, phone calls and e-mails to be returned; that project to be finished, another waiting in the wings; the client or customer who refuses to understand that the impossible is, well just that: impossible. Bills to pay and conversations we just do not want to have await once each of us returns home. We here in New England wait for months for winter to break and then do not walk outside to feel the warmth of sunshine beaming from April skies. It's not until May or early June that we take the walk at noon to feel the warmth of the day and the newly found sun, if we do it at all. It is easy to get lost in stuff that is, at the moment of ultimate truth, utterly meaningless. Our focus is lost in the blare and stress of modern life. We all, each of us alone in the separation from others that is so much a part of the modern, life get lost in that blare, in the cacophony of daily life.
