DERRY — A 36-year-old Sandown man has been charged with burglary. Police said he broke into his former girlfriend's house and beat up a man sleeping on the couch.

After breaking into his girlfriend's 1 Aladdin Circle home on June 28, Mark Bergeron, of 63 Holts Point Road, threw numerous punches to Christopher Mosher's head and face, according to a police affidavit.

Melissa Towne told police that she was woken up about 1:30 a.m. to the sound of someone pounding on her living room windows. Mosher was sleeping on the couch in the living room and went into Towne's bedroom to ask her what to do, according to the affidavit.

Bergeron then broke through the living room window and assaulted Mosher. He also struck Towne at least once in the face, according to the affidavit.

"Christopher stated he was punched in the face by Mark several times, choked while face down on the bed, and kicked in the stomach during the assault in said bedroom," Officer Stephen Clark wrote in the affidavit.

Capt. Vernon Thomas said the Derry Police Department put out a 12-hour arrest bulletin to all surrounding towns, and Bergeron was arrested at his Sandown home at 3:57 p.m.

Bergeron has been charged with one count of burglary and has been released on $10,000 cash bail. No date has been scheduled for his arraignment in Derry District Court.
