DERRY — The Derry Police Department welcomed two new members in a swearing-in ceremony Aug. 26.
Thomas Burke IV, 21, and Marc Johnson, 22, both of Manchester, received their badges in front of friends and family members at the Derry police station.
Burke and Johnson are friends and graduates of Memorial High School, where they graduated one year apart.
The two were part of the department's testing process in March.
One hundred twenty-three candidates participated in the written and physical fitness testing.
Burke and Johnson were the two chosen to become part of the department.
Burke receive an associate's degree in criminal justice from NHTI and is pursuing a bachelor's degree from Granite State College.
His father, retired Capt. Thomas Burke III, formerly of the Bedford Police Department, pinned his son's badge.
Johnson received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Plymouth State University earlier this year.
His badge was pinned by his parents, Carol and Marc Johnson Sr.
