DERRY — Lip-synching, dancing and teamwork add up to a whole lot of fun at Pinkerton Academy.
For weeks, Pinkerton students have practiced their lip-synching skills as part of the annual Milli Vanilli contest.
This year's contest was held Feb. 17 at the Stockbridge Theatre.
Milli Vanilli, the musical duo of Fabrice Morvan and Rob Pilatus, climbed the American pop charts during the 1980s, with several No. 1 hits and a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1990.
But when word of the pair's lip-synching secret got out, Milli Vanilli became the subject of late-night jokes and suffered a fall from musical grace.
In an effort to honor the style of Milli Vanilli, Pinkerton students present the contest every year.
Milli Vanilli at Pinkerton dates back to the 1990s. The contest stalled in 2002, due to a lack of participation, but returned to the stage a few years later.
