William and Marie Brander

William "Bill" and Marie Brander of Chester will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary at a family gathering at home

They met in New York City in 1942 at Bell Telephone Labs. They married May 29, 1945, in Key West, Fla., where Mr. Brander, a Tech 5 in the Army, was stationed at the time.

He had been assigned to a U.S. Army ordinance Service Command unit and maintained 90 mm anti-aircraft gun directors, used as part of U.S. shore defense in World War II.

Mr. and Mrs. Brander have three married sons living in Chester, six grandchildren — three of whom live in Chester — and 14 great-grandchildren, seven of whom live in Chester.

Before his retirement, Mr. Brander was an engineer with Bell Labs, having worked in Murray Hill, N.J., and in North Andover, Mass. In 1978, both Mr. and Mrs. Brander worked in Tehran, Iran, with American Bell International.
