Browsing through the leaves at the library

Your Libraries

Do you love driving through the countryside admiring the spectacular colors of fall foliage? Do you enjoy rummaging through book sales, attempting to find good books at a very reasonable price?

If you've answered yes to both questions, then begin your day at the Chester Public Library Saturday, October 10. Chester and other Granite State libraries are participating in Browsing Through the Leaves: The New Hampshire Statewide Library Book Sale Tour. Enjoy the brilliant fall colors as you drive from library to library, all in quaint New Hampshire towns, checking out some excellent book bargains. You'll help participating libraries raise some much-needed cash.

As mentioned, you begin your day at the Chester Public Library. Our book sale begins at 9am, outside of the Library if weather permits. Once you check out our sale, you'll have twelve other libraries to visit. It might be challenging to make them all but you do have the option to focus on one or more regions.

Should the mix of mill-towns, bedroom communities, and the coast suit your fancy, you might want to focus on the Seacoast region. Brentwood, Barrington, Somersworth, and Rollinsford are all hosting book sales. Once you're done visiting these libraries, you have the option to visit Portsmouth or take a ride along the coast.

Should you wish to head north or west, your first stop should be the Bedford Public Library, located off Route 101 in Bedford Village. Should you wish to head west, then hop back on 101 and admire the scenery of the Mount Monadnock region. The Gay-Kimball Library in Troy is located west of Monadnock on Route 12. You may then head north up Route 12 to Route 12A, taking that route to the Shea-Porter Memorial Library in Alstead.

The Sunapee region offers the great scenic combination of mountains and lakes. Libraries in Bradford, Warner, Wilmot, New London, and Springfield are all hosting book sales. When in Wilmot, stop at the Winslow State Park, located off Kearsarge Valley Road for a spectacular view of the Lake Sunapee area draped in autumn colors.

Heading up to the White Mountains? The Weeks Memorial Library on Route 3 in Lancaster should be included on your tour. You'll be able to see some great colors passing through Franconia Notch on your way up to Lancaster.
