Telephone company to thank customers
CHESTER — Granite State Telephone is gearing up to show appreciation to its Chester customers and offers people a thank-you gift during the upcoming Chester Town Fair on Sept. 6.
Granite State hosts a booth at the fair and from noon to 6 p.m., and telephone and Internet customers are welcome to stop by for a gift, enter raffles, get balloons for the kids, and speak to representatives on site, who will answer questions.
"We want to make sure our customers are getting the most out of their telephone and Internet services," Granite State chief operating officer William Stafford said. "The Chester Town Fair provides us with a perfect opportunity to meet our customers, answer questions, and introduce them to new and exciting features."
Granite State Telephone is also the lead sponsor of the Wason Pond 5k Cross Country Race, set to take place on Town Fair day.
Next month, Granite State hosts its Customer Appreciation Day and cookout. The event is set for Saturday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the company's Operations Center in Chester on Route 102.
The Chester Town Fair begins on Sept. 6 with a parade at noon, followed by a full day of fun, games, special activities, food, and fireworks. The fair takes place at the town's recreational fields on Route 102, near Chester Academy.

Chester Town Fair schedule — Saturday, Sept. 6
9 to 11 a.m. — Coffee Klatch at town offices. Meet and greet with local politicians. Sponsored by Chester Planning Board
Noon — Parade steps off from town offices, marching down to fair at fields on Route 102.
Noon to 9 p.m. — Food, crafters, entertainment, local businesses at field.
4 p.m. — Cow Plop Bingo at field.
9 p.m. — Fireworks display by American Thunder.

Air Force Reserve Airman Corissa L. Gecks graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Academic Achievers
Granite State Communications recently awarded a scholarship to an outstanding scholar in its service area. Kelly Glynn of Chester received $1,000 for the 2010-2011 academic year. A scholarship certificate was presented by Granite State Communications' president, Susan Rand King, on behalf of the Foundation for Rural Education and Development.
