Gary Aramini welcomed home

Former Chester resident Gary Aramini paid a visit to the area last week and also participated in the annual Greater Derry/Londonderry Relay for Life at the Pinkerton track. Aramini, now living in the Carolinas, was famous in these parts back in 1984 when, as a 20-year-old, he ran across the nation and raised approximately $500,000 for Dana-Farber cancer research in memory of his friend, Billy Clay, who died of the disease.

To celebrate his own 25th anniversary of his run and also to help celebrate life at the Relay, Ararmini joined with family and friends for his own Relay team, and spent 18 hours on the Pinkerton track circling to raise awareness and money for the cause.

Many in Chester remembered the man's run in 1984, saying it was big news in town and in surrounding areas when Aramini ran through on his way from the West Coast to Hampton Beach.

Eighth-grade pupils receive diplomas

Eighty-three eighth-graders received diplomas on June 20 during Chester Academy's annual graduation ceremony held under a big tent at the school.

Parents, friends, and families crowded into the tent to watch the ceremony, where principal Leslie Leahy and vice-principal Mark Campbell congratulated the students and handed out certificates.
