CHESTER — Thirteen-year-old Jessica Newnan tugged and pulled until a clump of soggy leaves came out of the pond, firmly attached to her rake.
The Chester girl was cleaning up the pond and hoping to give the surrounding garden area a spring sprucing up, not only to make the space look nice in time for spring, but to honor the memory of her younger brother.

CHESTER — Supporters of a citizens petition in town hope to find a way for more voters to have a say in how the school district conducts business each year.
A public hearing was held on Wednesday night to discuss a petitioned warrant article that, if approved, would change the voting procedure for Chester's school district from the traditional annual meeting format to the Senate Bill 2, or SB2 method of voting, where ballot voting takes place on all issues facing the district, including budget and warrant articles.

Air Force Airman Omaris Severino-Dominguez has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

CHESTER — Town Meeting will consider a $3.4 million operating budget more than a dozen warrant articles for fiscal year 2009 when it votes on May 14.

Bone marrow match found for Atkinson officer

HAMPSTEAD — A perfect bone marrow match has been found for Atkinson police Cpl. John Lapham.
That is good news for Lapham, who is battling an aggressive form of acute leukemia. He said some local donors were matches, but none was as perfect as one found in Europe. He will enter the hospital next week to prepare for the bone marrow transplant.
