The Chester Lions Club will continue its mission to provide help to the community in whatever way it can.

But according to a club spokesman, the Lions are in need of some assistance themselves.

"The community is responding positively to the Lions Club, but frankly in some fund-raisers it would be nice to see some more support," Bruce Baker said.

Baker has been with the Chester Lions Club for 16 years and says he "(sees) the same folks every year supporting the club."

"It would be nice to see some of the new residents supporting the Lion's Club," he said.

The Chester chapter, chartered in 1963, is part of Lions Club International. One of the organization's primary missions is to raise awareness of and combat sight and hearing loss.

Locally, the club runs fundraisers and other community focused events toward that mission as well as to support community growth.

To raise money for new vision-screening equipment for Chester Academy, the club will be running a Pancake Breakfast on March 22.

"The old equipment needs to be updated," Baker said.

The equipment will cost approximately $1,800 and the Lions Club Spaghetti Dinner held last fall will supplement funding from the breakfast.

In April the Lions Club will be holding its Senior Dinner- a turkey dinner free of charge for Chester seniors.

In September the Lion's Club will host its two major annual fund-raisers.

The Lions Club has run a "Food Booth" at the Chester Town Fair each year for over 30 years, according to Baker.

The community calendar, produced by the Lion's Club, is published in September — a project designed to bring the community together with something both novel and practical.
