Derry campground hosts traditional pow wow

Native Americans celebrate their heritage

DERRY —Tribal drumming, the stories told by traditional Native Americans, dance and colorful crafts all made up last weekend’s intertribal pow wow held at the Hidden Valley park area on Damren Road.

For two days, the spirit of the Native American traditions were alive with singing, dancing, flutes and crafts.

Spectators were able to observe basket-making techniques and hear stories and traditional tales. Children also had their own stories to hear about Native American life.

Vendors sold their authentic crafts, including moccasins, clothing, blankets, pottery and original Native American jewelry designs.
