Sunday, Nov. 29

First Parish will observe the beginning of Advent, each Sunday of Advent, through Dec. 20, people are invited to gather in the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m. to sing carols. During worship, we will light Advent candles and put figures in the creche. People are invited to stay and help decorate the building for the holidays, on Nov. 29. Dec. 6, after a soup and bread lunch, the Advent Workshop will be held. This will feature crafts for all ages, providing families with items to take home for their own holiday preparations. St. Peter's Episcopal Churc Alternative Christmas Fair, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This fair offers the public an opportunity to help those less fortunate throughout the world. The fair will offer gifts from the Heifer Fund, Episcopal Relief and Development Fund , cards from The Little Roses Orphanage, jewelry from Guatemala, and baskets from Nicaragua. Toys and Books Needed for ChIPs Program, St. Christopher's Episcopal Church is collecting holiday gifts and books for New Hampshire children whose parents are incarcerated. For many, this is the one gift the children will receive during the holiday season. Unwrapped gifts must be new and the suggested price range is $20-$25. Please do not send stocking stuffer type gifts such as crayons and coloring books or individual Matchbox cars. Also, please remember no gifts of play dough, silly putty, toy weapons or sharp objects of any kind can be accepted. Cash or checks are welcome and donations will be used to purchase gifts or books. For older children, music, electronic items, jewelry and gift certificates are appreciated. To encourage reading, the Diocese of New Hampshire also hopes to collect enough new books to give each child an age and gender appropriate new book, along with their gift. The Love Dare, discusses how statements like "I've fallen out of Love with you" or "I don't love you anymore".reveal a lack of understanding about the fundamental nature of true love. Beginning this fall, in the 9 a.m. Sunday School hour, Island Pond will offer the Love Dare study as featured in the popular movie "Fireproof". All are welcome to come and participate in this experience that will lead your heart back to truly loving your spouse while learning more about the design, nature and source of true love. St. Matthews United Methodist Church, in Sandown, holds its "Oasis" worship service, at 5 p.m. on Saturday evenings, downstairs in the Youth Room. Oasis is a great time to "get away from it all," with worship through song, prayer, and an uplifting message. A more traditional service is held at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings along with KidStuff, a program for children, age 4 through grade five. KidStuff is a fast-paced and entertaining program that introduces the Bible and Christian values to children through music, comedy, video, drama, puppet shows, and story telling. A Bible study for adults is held at 10 a.m., and Promiseland for youth is a fun and exciting approach to Christianity. The public is welcome.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church, in Londonderry, hosts an Employment Support Group that meets Mondays at 10 a.m. The group is open to all, and offers encouragement, lively discussion and resources to help with both the practical and spiritual needs of people looking for new employment, or who are anxious about keeping their jobs in these difficult times. Spring concert rehearsals, The Interfaith Choir is looking for new members. Membership is free and open to everyone of at least high school age, without audition. Rehearsals are Sundays, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Derry on Route 102. Reading music or prior experience in a choir is not necessary. Sheet music, music CDs, and performance instruction is provided free of charge. Performances are four times a year: two concerts in December and two concerts in the spring. Island Pond Baptist Church's youth group, invites youth, grades six through 12, to participate in Higher Standard Youth Group. Wednesday evening prayer and Bible study is led by the Rev. Wells at 7 p.m. Choir meets for practice at 8 p.m.; and women's Bible studies are offered Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday mornings at 9:15 a.m. (child care available on Wednesday). The Women's Bible study, an interdenominational gathering of women, is held every Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Plaistow Public Library, Main Street in Plaistow. Call 887-2985.

New Creation Healing Center, 148 Plaistow Road (Route 125) in Plaistow, is a collection drop-off spot for those in need. First, and in conjunction with the Lions Clubs International, New Creation accepts and passes on good quality, but no longer needed, eyeglasses. In conjunction with the Plaistow Food Bank, New Creation accepts nonperishable foodstuffs. Call 382-7391.

First Baptist Church of Salem, offers a variety of family and individual ministries during the week. Youth groups meet on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. Family night is held on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and begins with a free meal at 6 p.m. and classes for all ages, 7 to 8 p.m. The church is at 101 School St. in Salem. Call 893-9191.

Trinity Charismatic Episcopal Church, in conjunction with New Creation Healing Center, holds services of Christian Healing on the first Sunday of every month at 2 p.m. Christian Healing services consist of worship with hymns, prayers and a teaching from the Bible applied to daily life. Trinity Church will offer two Bible studies each week. One is Tuesday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Pearson home, 23 Faith Drive (off East Road) in Hampstead. Call evenings, 329-7341. St. Thomas Aquinas, offers the Children of Mary Prayer Group. Meetings are on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m., in the church. Wednesday staff prayer meetings are held at noon. Charismatic Prayer Meetings are held on Mondays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Knitting a Tighter Community meets on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Baby items such as diaper bags, size 2 and 3 diapers (small packages), bottles, baby wipes, onesies and sleepers are needed for the Baby Outreach Program. Bring any donations to the friary office.
