DERRY — The beach was the place to be last week when the thermometer refused to budge below 90 degrees.
More than 100 seniors agreed and headed for the end-of-summer senior picnic at Gallien's Beach Wednesday afternoon.
The event was sponsored by the Derry Parks and Recreation Department.
Seniors brought some of their favorite dishes to the event, including chili, meatballs, macaroni salad, cookies, cheesecake and blueberry cobbler. No one left hungry.
Seniors could go swimming in Beaver Lake. Some did and others sat in lawn chairs with their feet in the water. There was a big tent set up for seniors who wanted to play cards in the shade.
Derry residents Tim Pelligrino and Sam Gray ferried some picnic-goers around the lake on their pontoon boats.
It wasn't too hot for raffles, but the weather eliminated any thoughts of line dancing.
