DERRY — Kids Coop Theatre brings the tale of loveable ogre Shrek to life this weekend with “Shrek the Musical.”
The song and dance-filled story takes the Derry Opera House stage with performances May 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. and May 24 at 1 and 7 p.m.
The Opera House is at 29 West Broadway.
The story tells the tale of a faraway kingdom turned upside down when an ogre, not the usual handsome prince, shows up to rescue feisty princess Fiona.
Add a donkey with an attitude and other fabled fairy tale characters and the show becomes a family-friendly romp with 19 songs, including “Travel Song” and “I’ve Think I Got You Beat.”
Lead roles are played by Alex Herron as Shrek, Zoie Laskiewicz as Princess Fiona, and Jacob Doble as Donkey.
Kids Coop Theatre’s production of “Shrek the Musical” is directed by John Rodgers with musical direction by Amanda Morgan. Choreography is by Bethany Cassidy.
The 48-member cast features children ages 8 to 18 from all over Southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts.
All tickets are $12 and are available at www.kids-coop-theatre.org.
Discounted group tickets are available for groups of 10 or more for the Saturday matinee only, and include reserved seating, and a meet-and-greet with the cast and crew.
