Art project to focus on New England veterans

DERRY — Veterans who have created artwork are invited to donate their works for a fundraising project.

“Artist Veterans of New England” seeks photography, painting and sculpture created by New England artists who have served in the military.

The project supports the “Eyes of GIs” project, where Vietnam veterans create short films that allow them to share their wartime and homecoming experience as seen through their eyes and words.

Film screenings and discussion events for these films are arranged in partnership with local veteran organizations and agencies as well as with schools and other community groups.

The project aims to foster greater understanding of the veteran experience and to hear their stories.

“Eyes of GIs” is a project of Two Lights Creative LLC, a media arts and industrial design company based in Derry.

Veteran artwork is welcome for an upcoming local display in Derry to support “Eyes for GIs.”

Artwork will be displayed for one month at the Coffee Factory, 55 Crystal Ave., Derry, with an opening reception planned for June 7 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

The deadline to submit art is May 15. Call (858) 751-4802 or email
