Derry artist featured at Seacoast Artist event

---- — DERRY — Susan Monty of Derry is a featured artist in June and July at the Seacoast Artist Association Gallery, 225 Water St., Exeter.

Monty will be displaying equine and New England wildlife artwork in several mediums. Refreshments will be served.

Monty is a New England native who grew up in Windham and now lives in Derry, where she works out of a studio in her home.

She uses diverse media including colored pencil, pastel and oil to capture a realistic, but artistic, likenesses of her subjects. Her love of nature and animals, especially horses, is evident in her choice of subject matter.

Monty also uses her art to support horse welfare and rescue organizations, including Pure Thoughts Horse and Foal Rescue in Florida.

Monty designs the group’s annual holiday card and her paintings appeared in its commemorative anniversary book. She visits and works with local horse rescue groups, including Live and Let Live Farm and NEER North.

“Knowing my art is helping horses in need brings me great satisfaction and joy,” she said.

Monty’s award-winning work has been accepted into numerous juried and gallery exhibits around the country, including the Equine Art Classic held in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby.

She is a signature member of the International Equine Artists Group, as well as a member of the Seacoast Artist Association, the Canine Art Guild and the Pastel Society of New Hampshire.

Monty teaches beginning drawing for Derry Adult Education and holds classes in her home.

“I love teaching art,” she said. “I’ve met so many interesting and wonderful people. I enjoy passing on my love of art to others.”

An artist reception is set for June 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the gallery. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 778-8856 or visit seacoastartist for information and directions.
