DERRY — Flying carpets, dastardly villains and a big blue genie highlight Kids Coop Theatre’s production of Disney’s classic musical “Aladdin Jr.”
Young actors bring the characters of Aladdin, Princess Jasmine and the genie to life on the Derry Opera House stage with performances set for March 8 at 7 p.m. and March 9 at 1 and 7 p.m.
The Opera House is located at 29 West Broadway.
The cast is led by a team of student producers and directors, including Kids Coop veterans Marc Lussier, Bekka Beland and Rachelle Choiniere.
The young directors are mentored by longtime professional musical theater directors Maureen Mansfield and Marilyn Olbricht.
“Aladdin Jr.” is Kids Coop’s second show under the watch of young directors, giving them a chance to learn about putting on a production and working both behind and on the stage.
“Our young directors work incredibly hard and put in many long hours to make these shows a great experience for both the cast and the audience,” Kids Coop Theatre president Pam Rodgers said.
She said this year’s group of young directors is very talented and dedicated to making the show a success.
Taking lead roles as Jasmine, Aladdin and the genie are Marielle Choiniere, Ben Villnave and Sarah Rodgers, respectively.
The 31 cast members range in age from 8 to 17. The young entertainers represent towns all over Southern New Hampshire.
Tickets for “Aladdin Jr.” are $10 and are available at kids-coop-theatre.org. For more information about Kids Coop, call 432-8158.
