EAST DERRY — It was Super Bowl weekend in more ways than one.
For the 200 people attending the seventh annual Potter's Bowl event Friday night at Promises to Keep, it was a "souper" way to spend an evening and help a good local cause.
The Potter's Bowl, hosted by Community Caregivers of Greater Derry, offered hot soup, bread and desserts, all donated by local restaurants and businesses.
Patrons could choose a handcrafted pottery bowl, then fill it with soup until their appetites were satisfied.
Bowls came from students artists at Pinkerton Academy and Londonderry High School, as well as other local artisans who donated their talents to the soup event.
More than 50 items made up a silent auction selection as well.
Proceeds will support the Caregivers' mission to reach out through its volunteers and help the elderly, disabled and homebound maintain their independence.
Members of Derry's Red Star Twirlers attended to the tables while soup lovers lined up to sample the variety of soups.
This was the second year the Potter's Bowl has been held at Promises to Keep due to the rising popularity of the annual event.
