DERRY — The 27th annual Greater Derry/Londonderry Chamber of Commerce Holiday Parade stepped off Saturday on Broadway, filing past crowds of people lining the streets to watch.
The annual event helps kick off the season in Derry. It featured more than 80 marching units, including the Pinkerton Academy and Londonderry High School marching bands, Bektash clowns, local organizations and schools. Floats reflected this year’s parade theme, “Lighting Up the Holidays.”
Top float awards went to T-Bones/Cactus Jack’s and Barka Elementary School. A Most Unusual award went to South Range Elementary School.
Local Rotarians did their annual push to collect food and cash for local food pantries. They walked the parade route with shopping carts.
Following the parade, Derry continued the holiday party with its annual Very Derry Holiday with cookie decorating, crafts, and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
