DERRY — On Good Friday, March 29, the Derry Clergy Association will present an Ecumenical Good Friday Service.
It will begin at noon at the First Baptist Church at 4 Crystal Ave., located at the corner of East Broadway and Crystal Avenue.
This is a traditional service that this group has presented to the community for many years. One of the features of the service is that a number of churches are involved and the cross is carried from one church to the next.
The prayers throughout this service are from a liturgy entitled, “Seven Words from the Cross,” from the Iona Community in Scotland. This is a highly moving re-enactment of the condemnation of Jesus and his death on the cross.
Clergy and other church leaders from a number of Derry churches will share in the service. Also, the Sacred Dancers from the First Parish Church in East Derry will participate.
At the conclusion of this segment, the congregation will follow the cross and process to Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church, 63 East Broadway, also in Derry.
As this portion of the service is completed, the congregation will again follow the cross and process to the Church of the Transfiguration, 1 Hood Road in Derry.
Everyone is invited to participate in this service. For additional information, call 887-4799.
