Pinkerton Players to stage 'Damn Yankees'

DERRY — You’ve gotta have heart, as the song goes. In this case, a lot of heart pays off big for one true baseball fan.

Pinkerton Players will stage the musical “Damn Yankees” March 27-29 at 7 p.m. and March 30 at 2 p.m at the Stockbridge Theatre at Pinkerton Academy.

The show tells the tale of Joe, a hapless fan of the failing Washington Senators, who dreams his team can beat the all-powerful New York Yankees.

Mr. Applegate, the devil in disguise, comes to help Joe and grant his wish, but he must first sell his soul to make his team win.

Joe eventually is transformed into a star baseball slugger, part of a plot that involves love and greed. That’s all mixed in with a song list including “Heart,” “Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo.,” and “Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets.”

Tickets for “Damn Yankees” are $11 and available through the Stockbridge box office or by calling 437-5210.
