Relay for Life team hosts ice cream social

LONDONDERRY — Nothing is better than an ice cream treat on a spring night. For Londonderry Relay for Life supporters, it was made all the sweeter because it helped support their cause.

Londonderry Presbyterian Church hosted an ice cream social Sunday to benefit a local Relay for Life team, supporting the team's efforts to raise money for cancer patients and research.

The annual Greater Derry/Londonderry Relay for Life is set for June 22 at the Pinkerton Academy track.

For team Clever, having ice cream was one way to boost support for the cause.

This is the third year for the Londonderry team, according to team member Pam Gaines.

She said as part of this year's relay, team members will not only walk laps on the track during the 18-hour event, but will also do a "prayer relay" to give some extra thought and support to those battling cancer.

"We will pray for people with cancer," Gaines said. "Loved ones, everyone, offering them some hope. There will be walkers and prayers."
