DERRY — The Hyla Brook Reading Series continues at the Robert Frost Farm with a reading by award-winning poet Wesley McNair on Thursday, Sept. 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the farm, 122 Rockingham Road, Route 28.
The series is free and open to the public.
McNair will read from his latest book, "Lovers of the Lost, New and Selected Poems." Joining McNair is Derry poet and Hyla Brook cofounder Robert Crawford.
McNair has held grants from the Fulbright and Guggenheim foundations, two Rockefeller Fellowships, an NEH Fellowship in literature, and two NEA fellowships. In 2006, he was selected for a U.S. Artists Fellowship of $50,000 as one of "America's finest living artists." He has authored or edited 18 books, including poetry, nonfiction and anthologies.
Crawford's poems have appeared in many publications. He won the 2006 Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award. His first book of poetry, "Too Much Explanation Can Ruin A Man," was published in 2005. He is a Frost Farm trustee, a longtime member of the Powow River Poets, cofounder of the Hyla Brook Poets and director of the Hyla Brook Reading Series.
An open mic follows the readings and audience members are invited to share their work.
The Hyla Brook Poets group organizes the monthly reading series, as well as a monthly writing workshop, which meets the third Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. The next workshop takes place on Sept. 18 at the Frost Farm in Derry.
