---- — Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Chester

CHESTER — Chester Congregational and Baptist Church will have a St. Patrick’s Day Dinner on Saturday, March 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Stevens Memorial Hall, 1 Chester St.

Enjoy a New England corned beef dinner and Irish musical entertainment.

The cost is $12 for adults, $5 for children under 12, payable at the door. Proceeds from the dinner will benefit Chester Congregational and Baptist Church.

The Good News Club is open to all

DERRY — After School Good News Club programs are planned for children in grades K-5 and meet at Derry elementary schools. The programs run from 3:05 to 4:20 p.m. at the following schools: Mondays at Derry Village Elementary School; Fridays at Ernest P. Barka Elementary, and Fridays at East Derry Memorial Elementary.

The Good News Club is sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowshop Inc., an international, Bible-centered, non-denominational organization. All children may attend, regardless of religious background or affiliation.

The program includes a Bible lesson, creative learning activities, songs, games and snacks. It is free. Written parental permission is required for children to attend. Call 548-2496 for information and schedules.

Etz Hayim invites everyone to Purim

DERRY — Etz Hayim Synagogue of Derry will celebrate the holiday of Purim on Saturday, March 15, at 8 p.m.

Purim commemorates a time when the Jews living in ancient Persia were saved from extermination, as recounted in the biblical Book of Esther. At this carnival-like celebration, adults will dress in costumes, eat, drink and make merry.

Congregants will perform the story of Purim as adapted to the popular tunes of the band Queen. There will be a contest for the most creative “hamantashen” (Purim cookies).

The synagogue will also host a Purim children’s carnival on Sunday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to noon. Etz Hayim invites everyone to visit. Etz Hayim Synagogue is located at 1 ½ Hood Road.
