Salon has Shadow's paw of approval

LONDONDERRY — Shadow recommends the new line of salon-quality pet products carried by the Water's Edge Salon & Spa.

Shelly Devlin is an animal lover. She is also a businesswoman. Her salon and spa combines both of her passions. Her little dog Shadow comes to work most days. He is the hit of the day for many of her clients, she said.

"I would say 95 percent of my clients are among the ones who come here to unwind and relax and can almost always be found with Shadow snoozing in their lap while they enjoy a glass of wine as they receive one of our services," Devlin said. "The other five percent aren't happy that Shadow is a fixture here, and when they complain we make sure he's absent when they have their appointments. But that doesn't always satisfy them completely."

Devlin said she heard about the new John Paul Pet products and tried them on her own pet. She found them as good as advertised.

John Paul is the co-founder of Paul Mitchell hair care products.

"We decided since Shadow liked them we'd add them to what we have to offer clients at the salon," said office manager Sheri Gayer. "They've been a big hit especially when we point out they're tested on humans and recommended by Shadow. It has really been a good fit for us."

Devlin added the line in June and feels it is just one more service she can offer clients. Clients have been surprised they can buy pet shampoo and other pet-care products at the salon, but most have said it saves them a stop, which these days is a good thing, she said.

Gayer said the most popular product in the new product line has been the pet wipes.

"These are so handy to keep in the car clients tell us," she said. "They use them to wipe of muddy paws and to clean their pets between grooming sessions."

Devlin welcomes people who stop by to see what Water's Edge has to offer. For pet lovers in search of a relaxing salon visit, this might be the perfect place.

The salon and spa is located at 18 Orchard View Drive. For more information, call 421-1990.
