Palace Theatre and Chester College are sponsoring three one-week Professional Theatre Camps for high school students who want to study acting, voice and dance. Training will be provided by Broadway and theater industry professionals in this seven-day overnight camp on the Chester College campus. Students will earn one college credit in theater studies from Chester College of New England, which is transferable to any college or university. Cost for participation is $1,200 and includes tuition, room and meals. There will be one-week sessions. Session 3: Aug. 3 to 9. There is a $50, nonrefundable application fee. "The Princess & The Pea: A Theatre Intensive," through Aug. 3 culminating in a performance for the public, the cast will learn the entire show (music, lines, blocking, choreography), while also designing and creating the costumes and the set entirely on their own.
"Majestic's Making the Band" will run Aug. 4 to 16, from fashion photos and headshots, to recording sessions and even jam sessions as rehearsals for those instrumentalists (piano, drums, guitar, etc.) to accompany your fellow cast members. There will also be an emphasis on improvisational skills and stage presence.
Yellow Taxi Productions, Nashua's professional theatre organization, will begin free monthly lunchtime lectures and performances in downtown Nashua. This Lunch Box Series returns Thursday, Aug. 14, with a lecture on "Playwriting Basics," led by Lowell Williams, with a performance of the 10-minute play "Playwriting 101: The Rooftop Lesson." Both events start at 12:10 p.m. and will last for 40 minutes. Yellow Taxi Productions will host the series at its new performance space in the mill buildings at 5 Pine St. Extension, second floor, next to Gallery One and Nashua Community Music School. New Hampshire Theatre Project, in collaboration with Strafford Summer Arts, will offer a drama, music and arts camp for students in grades three through eight, running Aug. 4 to 8 at Center Strafford Elementary School in Center Strafford. Eagle Scout fundraiser concert, Friday, Aug. 1, 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Courier Hall at First Parish Church, 47 E. Derry Road, Derry. There is a $5 suggested donation to watch the concert. There will also be a bake sale during intermission. The music will be a trumpet duet, a brass quartet, a jazz combo and a barbershop quartet. The goal is to raise a total of $300 for Jon Gaines' Eagle Scout project. He will be constructing a footbridge in the Cole Marsh Conservation Area. He will also be clearing the trail leading to the bridge.
Bach's Lunch Concert Series, all performances are held on Wednesdays at noon. Each performance lasts approximately one hour, and concertgoers can bring their lunch.
