AUG. 13

Old Home Day Senior Night, 5 to 6 p.m. starting with the barbecue at the Lions Hall Pavilion. Although the barbecue is free, you must have a ticket available from Old Home Day contact person Carole Connolly, 434-7568. Following the barbecue, there will be the senior concert at the bandstand on the Town Common, featuring the Windham Swing Band from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The concert is open to everyone! In the event of inclement weather, the barbecue and concert will be moved to the high school.

Foster and Adoptive Information Booth at this year's Old Home Days celebration, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., to learn about foster parenting, adoption, or other ways to help children in need. Londonderry United Soccer Club is sponsoring its 11th annual International Soccer Camp run by Dutch Soccer Academy. Eagle Scout fundraiser concert, Friday, Aug. 1, 7:30-9 p.m. at the Courier Hall at First Parish Church, 47 E. Derry Road, Derry. There is a $5 suggested donation to watch the concert. There will also be a bake sale during intermission. The music will be a trumpet duet, a brass quartet, a jazz combo and a barbershop quartet. The goal is to raise a total of $300 for Jon Gaines' Eagle Scout project. He will be constructing a footbridge in the Cole Marsh Conservation Area. He will also be clearing the trail leading to the bridge.

All proceeds are to go to the Breast Cancer 3-Day. This is a 60-mile walk in August in Boston, sponsored by Susan G. Newsletters are sent via email on a monthly or bimonthly basis, and include up to 12 book recommendations each. In addition, patrons can directly request books from other libraries within the consortium of 13 libraries, allowing them even greater access to the books they can't wait to read. Northeast Shrine Associations Annual Meeting, in Manchester. One of the premier events of this weekend is a parade down Elm Street commencing at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23. There will be marching bands, motorized units, marching units and more from all 15 Shrine Centers that will participate. The parade will start at the north end of Elm Street below Webster Street and end at the Radisson Center of N.H. where the reviewing stand will be.

Aug. 24

Native American Toy Fund Run and Party at the VFW Post 1670 in Laconia, at 11:30 a.m. for lineup and noon to leave for the ride around the lake to return for free food and party with live music from L.A. East. The cost is $10 per person or a toy worth the same per person, there will be raffles and giveaways. All toys and money will be used to bring toys to Indian kids in New Hampshire and to the five reservations in Maine. Food and clothes will also be brought to needy elders in New Hampshire and Maine.

Back to School Clothing Drive at the Nesmith Library. Windham's Helping Hands would like you to help by providing new school clothing for 45 school-aged children. There is a large red schoolhouse set up in the Nesmith Library displaying "paper dolls" signifying a child who could use specific school supplies, a new outfit or a pair of shoes (sizes will be provided). To help, simply choose a "doll," purchase the item(s) and return it to the library with the doll attached no later than Friday, Aug. 15. Foxwoods bus trips, the Vic Geary drop-in center in Plaistow will be sponsoring monthly trips to Foxwoods Casino on a large coach bus every second Monday of the month. The bus will leave at 7 a.m. from the Vic Geary Center. the return trip will leave Foxwoods around 4 p.m. The cost of the trip is $32, which will include free bingo games on the ride to Foxwoods, a movie with snacks on the return, Foxwoods coupons for two, $10 Keno play and a $10 food or full buffet coupon. The town of Hampstead has partnered with Got Books to place a drop-off donation and reuse container for residents, nonresidents, businesses, schools, libraries and other groups who wish to contribute books they no longer have a use for. The bin will also accept CDs, DVDs, videos and audio books. The Got Books donation container is at the Hampstead Highway Department, 35 Stage Road. Leddy Center School for the Performing Arts to offer Vijaya Yoga sessions. The Cooperative Alliance for Regional Transportation, known as CART, is a curb-to-curb transportation system serving the communities of Chester, Danville, Derry, Londonderry, Plaistow, Salem, Windham and Hampstead for those needing a ride. Transportation can be used for medical visits, shopping or social visits. CART services are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $2 per one-way ride. Reservations can be made during regular business hours by calling 434-3569. Reservations must be made several days in advance, but no more than 14 days in advance.
