Derry Public Library NextReads, an e-mail newsletter service, which provides great reading suggestions. An email address is all you need to subscribe to any of the 22 different newsletters, all of which provide great reading suggestions. Fiction and nonfiction newsletter topics include Biography and Memoir, Fantasy, Mystery, Nature and Science, and Audiobooks, as well as two children's newsletters and one for young adults. Newsletters are sent via email on a monthly or bimonthly basis, and include up to 12 book recommendations each. Subscribers can link directly to the Derry Public Library catalog from books of interest on the newsletters, and place a hold. In addition, patrons can directly request books from other libraries within the consortium of 13 libraries, allowing them even greater access to the books they can't wait to read. This summer, high school students from all over the world will be arriving in New Hampshire with a nonprofit program called Education First Homestays. Monday through Friday, the students will be taking classes at Portsmouth Christian Academy and exploring the area on field trips. They will be staying with volunteer host families. This year, 100 students are expected to sign up, traveling from countries such as Spain, Hong Kong, Russia and Taiwan. They arrive July 9 and depart on Aug. 4. American Red Cross Summer Swim Program: Instructional swimming lessons will be held at the Livingston and Hunt Pools located in Manchester on weekdays. The bus will leave at 7 a.m. from the Vic Geary Center. the return trip will leave Foxwoods around 4 p.m. The cost of the trip is $32, which will include free bingo games on the ride to Foxwoods, a movie with snacks on the return, Foxwoods coupons for two, $10 Keno play and a $10 food or full buffet coupon. The town of Hampstead has partnered with Got Books to place a drop-off donation and reuse container for residents, nonresidents, businesses, schools, libraries and other groups who wish to contribute books they no longer have a use for. The bin will also accept CDs, DVDs, videos and audio books. The Got Books donation container is at the Hampstead Highway Department, 35 Stage Road. Leddy Center School for the Performing Arts to offer Vijaya Yoga sessions. Taught by Phillis Stewart Hall, a certified Pathways yoga teacher, Vijaya Yoga classes will be available on Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. or on Thursdays from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. Sessions are one class per week for six weeks. The Cooperative Alliance for Regional Transportation, known as CART, is a curb-to-curb transportation system serving the communities of Chester, Danville, Derry, Londonderry, Plaistow, Salem, Windham and Hampstead for those needing a ride. Transportation can be used for medical visits, shopping or social visits. CART services are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $2 per one-way ride. Reservations can be made during regular business hours by calling 434-3569. Reservations must be made several days in advance, but no more than 14 days in advance.
