Volunteer awarded media scholarship

Derry Community Television announced that volunteer producer Russell Wolff has been awarded a $165 scholarship to attend this year’s Alliance for Community Media Northeast Region conference.

Titled “Tradition Meets Innovation,” the conference will be held next month in Sturbridge, Mass.

The award was given through the New Hampshire Coalition of Community Media.

Wolff, who also volunteers at Atkinson Community Television, is an asset to the DTV team when it comes time to take on large scale productions.

“Russ enjoys larger events like the ones coming up this September. Derry’s Got Talent and Derryfest are examples of places where his talents shine,” Derry’s Cable Access Coordinator Chris Martin said.

Reporter and video producer Kimberley Haas said that more individuals like Wolff are always needed at channels 17 and 23.

“People don’t understand how many volunteers are needed to run a remote truck or put together a show,” she said, “They just flick on the television and expect something to be there. Every show and event requires multiple people with a variety of talents to plan and execute the producer’s vision.”
