---- — DERRY — A local animal supporter hopes to make a difference in the lives of homeless pets.
Lori Trickel owns Lucky Paws, a dog walking and pet-sitting service based in Derry. She is organizing a donation drive to collect food, toys, collars and other pet supplies to support the Manchester Animal Shelter.
Trickel spends her days visiting clients and taking their dogs for walks around the neighborhood.
Trickel said she loves what she does and wants to help other animals.
With about six clients, Trickel said she is kept busy not only walking dogs daily, but also doing pet-sitting. She is taking classes to learn obedience and to be a veterinary technician.
She does a similar supply drive every year. Anything related to pets is appreciated.
“They are looking for everything,” she said.
This time, Trickel is teaming up with Ernest P. Barka Elementary School, where she will place donation bins in the school’s classrooms.
The drive officially kicks off Oct. 15 and will run through Nov. 30. Some local businesses have agreed to host donation bins, too.
Trickel has two children who attend Barka. She said everyone has been very supportive of her efforts.
“I’m so excited that Barka is on board,” she said.
It’s a great way for children to get involved and help, she said.
Trickel said she loves what she does and the reception she gets from her canine clients is a pleasure.
“Sometimes I get a better greeting than I do from my kids,” she said.
