Metro Market offers postal services

DERRY — Metro Market owner Philip Abirached now is offering postal services at his 158 Rockingham Road Plaza store.

Customers will be able to do about 75 percent of what they could do at the post office, including printing colored stamps, mailing letters, and shipping packages via a self-service kiosk and drop box.

This service expands access and helps reduce lines at the post office. It also expands the hours postal services are available. The kiosk also provides delivery and signature confirmation.

Abirached's store is approximately 10 miles away from the closest post office.

"In addition, when I heard more post offices might be closing and that my customers wanted faster and convenient access to postal services," he said, "I looked for offering such a service and have done it with my own private business investment."

Metro Market did some reorganizing to prepare for the kiosk launch by making space in the store. Abirached also set up a full offering of shipping and mailing supplies, and a space for customers to prepare their packages for shipping.

Abirached said Metro Market is the first store in New England to launch the Mail & Go program, which also offers the first colored postage printed "on demand."

This managed service is provided by LePage's and Pitney Bowes. LePage's is a manufacturer of a full line of shipping supplies and Pitney Bowes' retail deployment partner for the kiosk program.
