Derry welcomes Magpie Grill

DERRY — The Magpie Grill and Deli is now open for business.

The new deli/restaurant at 10 Manchester Road is serving up homemade sandwiches and entrees.

Proprietors Dave Haraske and Gregg Desmarais invite people to stop by and say hello.

The business is located in the former Quiznos restaurant space.

Haraske and Desmarais are no strangers to the food service business.

Haraske said he owned a cafe in Newburyport for several years, also with the word "magpie" in the name,. It's a favorite image now being used once again in a new Derry life.

"We made a nice bird logo," Haraske said.

For Desmarais, it's been years of working in various restaurants and food industry jobs, gaining valuable experience along the way.

When the pair met, it was time to put those efforts into bringing a quality establishment to this area.

"This came out very nice," Haraske said as he glanced around his new space on Manchester Road.

Magpie features handmade sandwiches and entrees served up with homemade tortilla chips.

The restaurant also features homemade marinades on its signature grilled meats and chicken.

Add in chicken fingers and wings, and it's the right combination, owners say.

"We're always buying fresh," Desmarais said. "And it's all made in house."

Putting unique spins on that food is also something Desmarais said is a Magpie trademark.

"It makes a difference," he said. "It's a lot of effort, but it's the right way to do it."

Haraske said customers will get a good value for their money.

"We do things other people don't do," he said.
